almost got hurt doing these...

I decided to try my new technique LIVE one guy, the german lookin guy in red kept glaring at me, aand the other guy kept flaring his nostrils and getting angrier with those eyebrows!

The surfer meets ... a surfer

I was feeling miserable, fighting the flu , and talking the subway gods for granting me a seat on a Brooklyn Bound number 6 train. I was just about to doze off when I spotted him. He looked magnificent. An older Asian gentlemen who carried himself with elegance and grace, and was chatting with a woman directly across from me. He was a bronze color as if he just left the beach had thinning gray hair neatly combed back, and had a silver mustache the covered his mouth. He looked almost regal and I quickly got out my sketchpad, and starting drawing. He looked up from his conversation in my direction and smiled. I confessed that i was drawing him, and to my surprise he seemed flattered, and positioned himself so I could get a better look. I found out from his traveling companion that he used to be a surfer, which explained his athletic appearance. I gave him a flyer and told him that I would post his picture on my blog on Friday and to be on the lookout for it.
I hope he's reading this now.

back to subwaysurfing, and yes, they're still funny lookin

Starbucks pics

I didnt have my usual tools, so i used these great colored woodless pencils and a very thin pen line. I kinda like the results.

NCN CONVENTION Bob's wife and Japanese "white guy"

I did a memory sketch of fellow caricature artist, Bob East, Aka "Beast" lovely, wife. I hated the sketch I did of her while eating dinner one night and i promised her another, and here it is. Im really pleased with it, and drew it yesterday afternoon in between customers at Central Park(made a lotta dough that day by the way.) This other memory sketch is done of an unkonwn Japanese artist who was at the con, whose face was constantly hidden by his massive hair . I think I made him look more white than japanese though, but i still like the sketch.

NCN CONVENTION

Last year in Union Square I was approached by a Japanese gentlemen who was very excited about getting his caricature done. To my surprise, I found out that he was actually a caricature artist himself, and we both shared a laugh at the Convention. His name is "Say G" and he wore that headband for the entire week intensely working on his drawings and never looking up. I caught him good with my "manga-esque" rendition of him, and then he got his revenge!!!

NCN CONVENTION "me as Mr. Froggie"

Nage, The Golden Nosey Winner, did THIS to me!

NCN CONVENTION Glenn and ME

Glenn Fergueson is a fine artist, but I really think he "missed on my likeness" this time. I'm arguing that point with him here, and then coming to the awful realization that it IS me!!

NCN CONVENTION closeup of my wall

Here is a closeup of some of the images. I thought about using color, but decided to have my work have that same, "subwaysurfer feel" that it has on my sketchbooks.

NCN CONVENTION my wall

NCN CONVENTION 2007

Hate to use an old cliche, but it was the best one ever!... er, until next year, at least! LOTS of great art as usual, too much to tell right now as I've just gotten back.I got a chance to be drawn by Glen Ferguesen, one of my caricature heroes and an unbelievable airbursh artist and exaggerator!
